Geeta Sidhu-Robb, Founder and CEO of Nosh Detox

www.noshdetox.com

Geeta spoke at our Fast Growth Entrepreneurs Club in March 2015.

An ex-corporate lawyer, she gave up her career in 2008 to set up her own business. Her son’s severe food allergies; eczema, asthma and anaphylaxis as a baby led her to retrain as a food technician and nutritionist. She was determined to get her son fit and well through nutrition, despite doctors believing steroids and drugs were the way to control his conditions.  In 2008, Nosh Detox was born.

Nosh Detox provide Organic Foods, Vitamins & Nutrients, delivered fast to your door.

In 2012 Geeta launched the first Nosh retail product Nosh Raw Smoothie, the world’s first 100% raw smoothie, using exclusive cold press technology known as High Pressure Processing (or HPP), which allows the fruit and other ingredients in each Nosh Raw Smoothie variant to retain more naturally occurring vitamins, minerals, anti oxidants and enzymes than any other conventional smoothie (which are heat treated using gentle pasteurization). Six months later Nosh Raw Fruity launched; a range of four delicious flavours of juice, using the same cold press technology, to offer the closest thing to juicing and making smoothies yourself, or to buy for people on the go.

Both Raw Smoothie and Raw Fruity are now available to buy through the website, Ocado, Whole Foods, Amazon and Planet Organic, as well as independent retailers nationwide.

A trained healer and a qualified Bush Flower Essence therapist, Geeta also offers personal consultations to Nosh Detox clients. She has spent over a decade working with children with autism, ADD, ADHD, asthma, eczema and allergies; seeing how diet affects them and what helps them to be calmer, yet have more energy. She also worked on how children can absorb the most nutrition from the least amount of food, to gain focus and pay attention and overall, meals that simply work better within their bodies.

An inspiration to thousands of men and women all over the UK to improve not only their health and well-being but their complete mind set in the way they look at life and their lifestyles, Geeta was also the very first to pioneer healthy blended juices through her Nosh Detox Juice Fast plan.

Sam Clarke, co-founder and CEO of Gnewt Cargo

www.gnewtcargo.com

Sam spoke at our Fast Growth Entrepreneurs Club in February 2015. He studied Business and Technology at Oxford Brookes University where his dissertation was on electric vehicles; little did he know he would be using this information to build a multimillion pound company in the years to come…

After leaving University, Sam found himself working briefly for England Rugby. Whilst working at Twickenham, his first bite at entrepreneurship kicked in; he saw an opportunity to utilise the parking lots that were seldom used throughout the year and decided to set out on importing and selling Christmas trees. With a basic business plan, a couple of credit cards and extended credit terms the business was an instant success. Ten years on the business continues to grow and now sells over 3000 trees a year. Outside of the Christmas tree season Sam visited trade shows and events looking for the next big idea.

On his travels in China he was almost run over by a silent electric scooter; the ‘go to’ vehicle for the masses, so why not for the UK too? He was hopeful that this mode of transport would take off in the UK and he invested, through family borrowing, in shipping several container loads, but after a struggle and despite selling all stock, found himself significantly out of pocket.

The aftercare and quality of the product was not financially sustainable especially given a looming recession. Unperturbed, he teamed up with a new business partner Matt Linnecar. Together they decided to change tact and create a last-mile delivery service using electric vehicles as a logistics solution rather than simply selling them. Gnewt Cargo was born.

Gnewt began trading in November 2009 and has enjoyed exponential growth ever since. Turnover has increased 50% year on year and has always been profitable, growing 100% last year alone. Having gone from an Angel invested start-up in 2009 it was recently part-bought in 2014 by a DX PLC having agreed a valuation of £3.5m. Gnewt is multi-award winning and accredited by Transport for London’s FORS scheme.

On February 6th 2015 Sam was elected as a Fellow into the National Institute of Couriers at the House of Lords. Sam and his team now aim to take Gnewt nationwide through 2015 as well as continue to grow in Central London.

Paul Currie, Founder and CEO of The Lakes Distillery

www.lakesdistillery.com

This Club was hosted Holborn Bars in London and all those attending benefited from a whiskey tasting.

Paul Currie grew up around whisky. His father was MD of a global whisky business and in 1995, father and son joined forces to set up the Isle of Arran Distillers, the first new independent whisky distillery in Scotland for many decades. As managing director of the company, Paul oversaw the successful opening of the distillery, whose products were launched in Europe, Asia and North America. A number of prestigious awards were won – including Scottish TV’s ‘Best Young Business’ Award as well as the Scottish Trade International’s ‘New Exporter of the Year’ Award.

Paul moved on from Arran and is pursuing his dream of establishing the first ever official distillery in the Lake District, but success hasn’t come easily. Paul’s search to find the perfect location, the right team, specific resources (namely a source of water), secure funding and navigate numerous planning regulations has taken him over three years. Finally this month, The Lakes Distillery starts producing malt whisky, gin and vodka.

The Lakes Distillery has also launched the first ever blend of British whiskies, The ONE, and has secured distribution across The Netherlands, France, Belgium and The UAE, with many more markets set to launch in the next year.

This was a story of hope, faith, luck and love – the motto of The Lakes Distillery.
